Eid-el-Kabir: MUSWEN Urges Leaders to Prioritise Good Governance
The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has extended warm Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Nigerians, especially the Muslim faithful, while calling on political office holders to embrace the values of selfless leadership and good governance.
In a statement jointly signed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary/CEO, Prof. Muslih ‘Tayo Yahya, MUSWEN described the Eid-el-Kabir festival as a sacred occasion that commemorates the obedience and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), urging all Nigerians to use the moment for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to unity and compassion.
“We pray that Allah (SWT) accepts our acts of worship, grants us His mercy, and strengthens the bonds of unity across our nation,” the statement read.
MUSWEN, however, expressed concern over the growing tendency among political leaders to prioritise personal political ambitions—particularly second-term bids—over the urgent responsibilities of governance.

“This neglect of duty undermines the trust placed in them by the electorate and worsens the challenges facing our country, including economic hardship, insecurity, and infrastructural decay,” the group noted.
It therefore urged public officials to place the welfare of the people above all else, uphold transparency, and fulfil their mandates with sincerity and accountability.
“The essence of leadership, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), is selfless service and sacrifice for the greater good. We urge those in authority to recommit to these values and work tirelessly to improve the lives of Nigerians.”
The Islamic umbrella body also called on citizens to foster peace, unity, and mutual support during the celebrations.
“Let us extend kindness to the less privileged and work together to build a prosperous and just society,” MUSWEN stated.
The message concluded with prayers for divine guidance and blessings: “May Allah (SWT) guide our leaders aright, bless our nation with peace and prosperity, and accept our sacrifices. Eid Mubarak!”
