Delta, Kaduna Crackdowns: Police Neutralize 7 Kidnappers, Arrest 5 Robbery Suspects, Recover Stolen Vehicles

In a renewed onslaught against criminal elements across the country, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the neutralization of seven suspected kidnappers and the arrest of five alleged armed robbers in separate operations in Delta and Kaduna States.

The coordinated efforts also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, several rounds of ammunition, and five stolen vehicles.

A statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the successful operations stemmed from credible intelligence and collaborative fieldwork between police operatives and local security networks.

According to the release, on June 4, 2025, officers of the Delta State Police Command, acting alongside vigilantes and anti-cult volunteers, stormed the Abraka Railway axis—an area long plagued by abduction cases. Acting on a tip-off, the operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, which left four suspects neutralized. One AK-47 rifle and thirteen rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene.

In a related operation, the Command’s CP-Special Assignment Team intercepted a suspicious shuttle bus near Ewhereni Junction along the Ughelli–Patani Road. The suspects onboard reportedly opened fire on the operatives in an attempt to escape.

The encounter resulted in the deaths of three suspects. An AK-47 rifle loaded with eighteen rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the vehicle. Preliminary investigations suggest the gang is part of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within the state.

Meanwhile, in the North-West, operatives from the Kaduna State Police Command arrested five suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly behind a string of car thefts and violent crimes across Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory.

One of the suspects, Mohammed Kabir of Samaru Gusau, Zamfara State, was apprehended after a high-speed chase near Zaria.

He was found in possession of a Toyota Hilux vehicle stolen from the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on May 28, 2025.

Further breakthroughs included the recovery of a Toyota Camry abandoned along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway and a Honda CR-V linked to one Emmanuel Oliseh, who reportedly stole the car in Abuja. Additionally, three suspects—identified as Ibrahim Bala, Abdulsalam Abdullahi, and Abdulraman Muktar—were arrested with a stolen 1998 model Toyota Camry from Nasarawa State.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, praised the field operatives for their swift and coordinated responses, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency synergy and community-based intelligence in tackling insecurity.

“These operations underscore our unrelenting resolve to confront criminality head-on. The successes were made possible through intelligence-led policing and the support of patriotic Nigerians,” the IGP said.

He further appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies, assuring them that such collaboration remains a critical pillar in the nation’s quest for peace and security.
