Lagos Police Arrest Most Wanted Serial Killer ‘Olori Eso’, Recover Arms, 9 International Passports
In a major security breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended the state’s most notorious hired killer and gang leader, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso. The arrest follows a meticulously coordinated operation tagged “Silence, Speed and Surprise” executed by the Command’s Tactical Squad operatives.
The 44-year-old suspect, described as the most vicious hired assassin in Lagos in recent history, was captured in his hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State on Friday. According to the police, Akinwande had evaded arrest for over a decade while spearheading a reign of terror—spanning armed robberies, serial murders, cult-related killings, and kidnappings—particularly in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Speaking on the development, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the arrest as a landmark achievement in the Command’s battle against violent crime. He emphasized that Akinwande’s apprehension was a result of years of intelligence gathering, sustained surveillance, and inter-state pursuit.
A cache of arms and incriminating materials was recovered from Akinwande’s Mushin residence, including:
Two (2) AK-47 rifles
One (1) K2 Assault rifle
One (1) Red Ryder rifle
Three (3) Pump action rifles
Two (2) locally made single-barrel pistols
Five (5) Magazines
Fifty-seven (57) live cartridges

The suspect reportedly confessed to the ownership of the weapons and admitted to leading multiple criminal operations that have left scores of families in grief and communities in fear. So far, four families have come forward to identify him as the person responsible for the murder of their children and wards.
In response to the arrest, CP Jimoh has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead a specialized team to expand the investigation and apprehend other accomplices linked to Akinwande’s gang.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors. CP Jimoh lauded the Tactical Squad for their bravery and professionalism and called on the public to continue collaborating with the police by providing timely and credible intelligence.
“Let this serve as a clear message to all criminal elements—there will be no hiding place for you in Lagos,” CP Jimoh stated.
Wasiu Akinwande remains in custody under tight security and is expected to face prosecution for multiple capital offences.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station as the investigation continues.
