Nigerian Navy Decorates Seven Newly Promoted Officers
The Nigerian Navy has decorated seven of its officers with new ranks in a colorful ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant career milestone for the officers.
The promotion ceremony, known in naval tradition as the “shipping of stripes,” honoured the officers’ exceptional service, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the Navy and the nation.
A statement released by Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, on Tuesday in Abuja, confirmed the event.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdullahi Dewu, commended the newly promoted officers for their steadfast commitment and integrity. He emphasized that their elevation to the rank of lieutenant commander was a testament to their hard work and leadership.

Rear Admiral Dewu also extended appreciation to the spouses and families of the officers, acknowledging their vital role in supporting the home front, which enables the officers to focus on their national duties.
“Today’s ceremony is a celebration of hard work, integrity, professionalism, and perseverance. Your promotion is not just recognition of past achievements but also a call to greater responsibility as lieutenant commanders in the Nigerian Navy,” Dewu stated. “You must put in your best in the Navy’s ongoing effort to combat insecurity and maritime crime in our country.”
Among the officers decorated with their new ranks were Lieutenant Sadiq Alhassan, Lieutenant Augusta Aku, Lieutenant James Enejoh, Lieutenant Clement Eyeh, Lieutenant James Fatika, Lieutenant Titilayo George, and Lieutenant Deborah Nwaorji.
Adams-Aliu stated that the Nigerian Navy will continue to prioritize excellence and reward merit among its ranks as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its human resource base and enhance operational effectiveness in securing Nigeria’s maritime environment.
