Anambra Police Launch Manhunt After Gunmen Kill 10 in Ogboji Attack

Anambra Police Launch Manhunt After Gunmen Kill 10 in Ogboji Attack 

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the armed criminals responsible for the deadly attack in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area.

The attack, which was responsible for the loss of ten lives in a brutal shooting spree.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on the evening of June 30, 2025, when gunmen stormed a gathering in the community and opened fire indiscriminately.

The attackers, who arrived in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), unleashed unprovoked gunfire on the unsuspecting group, causing chaos and carnage.

“Ten people sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital, but sadly, they were confirmed dead,” the police spokesperson said. The bodies of the victims have been deposited in a morgue.

Describing the attack as “indiscriminate and condemnable,” the Anambra Police Command assured residents that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“The Command shall hunt down the perpetrators,” SP Ikenga stated firmly, adding that a police-led security team has already taken over the crime scene and commenced investigative operations.

While details of the motive behind the attack remain unclear, the police say they are working with credible intelligence to track down those behind the heinous act. The Command also appealed to the public to remain calm and support the ongoing investigation by providing useful information that may aid in apprehending the suspects.

Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses, the statement added.
