Yellow Danbokkolo, Mastermind of Shinkafi Massacre, Killed by Troops

The military high command has confirmed the death of Yellow Danbokkolo, a notorious terrorist kingpin and one of the most feared insurgents in the country’s northwest, following a fierce gun battle with troops of Operation FASAN YAMA.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, by Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, Danbokkolo succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during an intelligence-led operation carried out last week in Eastern Sokoto.

He said the operation was conducted by troops in collaboration with Hybrid Forces, supported by air components and other security agencies.

Danbokkolo, who had terrorized communities across Sokoto and neighboring states for years, was notorious for orchestrating the horrific December 2021 attack in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where several travelers were burnt alive.

PRNigeria gathered that he was known for his excessive use of narcotic substances, particularly pentazocine, which he reportedly used to fuel his reign of terror.

Military sources say Danbokkolo was considered even more dangerous than the infamous Bello Turji, another high-profile terrorist leader currently on the run. With Danbokkolo neutralized, troops of Operation FASAN YAMA have renewed their manhunt for Turji and other remnants of the terror network still operating in the region.

“This is a significant blow to terrorist elements in the Northwest,” the statement said. “Our gallant troops are exultant and more determined than ever to dismantle all criminal strongholds. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains resolute in restoring peace and normalcy to all troubled areas.”

The military also called on citizens to continue supporting ongoing operations through timely and credible intelligence, reiterating its commitment to securing lives and property across the nation.
