Employment: ICPC Secures Conviction of FAAN Staff
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Mr. Iyonu Eseme, an employee of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), for securing employment with forged credentials.
Eseme was arraigned before Justice M.I. Tanko of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on a three-count charge bordering on forgery. The charges were filed under Sections 366 and 368 of the Penal Code Act, and Section 25 (1)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

One of the charges stated that Eseme, in August 2020, with the intent to defraud, forged a Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity Certificate of Competence—popularly known as a Trade Test Certificate I, II, III (2014)—bearing the code KN/6/90052.
Following his arraignment, Eseme entered a plea bargain through his counsel, Mr. Anthony Idanosa Eruaga. The ICPC’s prosecuting counsel, Mr. Nura Saidu, accepted the plea bargain in accordance with Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 and recommended a conviction with an option of fine.
Justice Tanko adopted the plea deal and sentenced the defendant to a fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000.00).
In a statement following the judgment, the ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding integrity in public service and warned that forgery and related corrupt practices would continue to be met with legal consequences.
