Igbo Criminals Behind Most Killings, Abductions in Southeast, Not Fulani — Governor Soludo Declares
Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has stated that contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of violent crimes and kidnappings in the southeastern region are perpetrated by people of Igbo extraction—not Fulani herdsmen.
Speaking during a town hall meeting with members of the Anambra diaspora in the United States, held at the Metro Points Hotel in New Carrollton, Maryland, Soludo revealed that nearly every kidnapper arrested in the state since he assumed office has been Igbo.

“In my three years and three months as governor, 99.99 percent of kidnappers and armed criminals arrested in Anambra are Igbos,” Soludo said. “These are Igbos kidnapping and killing fellow Igbos—not Fulani herdsmen as many assume. Anambra belongs to all of us, and its future is our collective responsibility.”
The governor also criticized certain armed groups operating under the guise of liberating the Southeast, describing them as criminal gangs run by Igbo youths who have turned violent activities into a business enterprise.
“Let’s stop deceiving ourselves,” he said. “Ask yourselves: how do these so-called liberators survive in the forests for months without local support? Who is feeding them? Clearly, there is an ecosystem enabling them.”
Governor Soludo’s remarks are part of his ongoing effort to confront insecurity in Anambra State and reshape narratives surrounding the true sources of violence in the region.
