IG Boosts Police Intelligence Capacity with New Tech, Training for Technical Intelligence Unit
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, in a major push to enhance crime detection and prevention nationwide, has equipped the Nigeria Police Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) with cutting-edge technological tools and applications.
The move, according to the IGP, is aimed at strengthening the Force’s intelligence-gathering capacity and ensuring more effective, intelligence-led policing in response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
As part of this initiative, the IGP has also approved the immediate rollout of comprehensive training programs for TIU personnel. These programs are tailored to align with international intelligence standards and will ensure officers are adequately trained to operate the newly introduced technologies.

“The dynamic nature of crime demands that the Nigeria Police Force continually adapts its strategies by integrating advanced technology and intelligence-led methods into its operations,” the IGP noted. “Our recent achievements, including the dismantling of a notorious arms trafficking syndicate operating across Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States, are clear evidence of the effectiveness of our revamped intelligence operations.”
Dr. Egbetokun emphasized that under his leadership, the Police will remain proactive in deploying modern tools and strategies to stay ahead of criminal elements. He reassured Nigerians of the Force’s continued readiness to address emerging security threats and safeguard lives and property across the country.
The Inspector-General also reiterated the Police’s commitment to building a safer and more secure Nigeria through strategic reforms and innovative approaches to policing.
