Troops Intercept Illicit Logistics Bound for Cameroon, Uncovers, Destroys 14 IEDs in Borno
In a series of intensified operations aimed at disrupting insurgent logistics and safeguarding civilian communities, Nigerian Army troops have recorded significant successes in Borno State, intercepting contraband believed to be destined for terrorists and safely neutralizing multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Troops of Sector 3, Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), and Operation HADIN KAI, while on routine patrol near Gamboru in Ngala Local Government Area, intercepted suspected contraband logistics intended for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters. The interception took place along unauthorized border crossing points, known locally as Gates 3 and 4, along the Nigeria–Cameroon frontier.
Military intelligence sources revealed that the patrol team spotted individuals ferrying assorted goods toward the riverbank leading into Cameroon. The suspects, upon detecting the presence of troops, abandoned the items and fled across the river.

Recovered items from the scene included 28 large sacks of Coca-Cola and Fanta, 19 large cartons of dried fish, three sacks of fresh fish, three dozen trampoline covers, and three cartons of electrical accessories. Preliminary assessments suggest the smugglers deliberately avoided legal entry points to evade scrutiny and facilitate the illicit supply of goods potentially intended to support insurgent activities.
All seized items are now in secure custody, while surveillance across the border corridor has been heightened to prevent further illegal movements and cut off insurgents’ supply chains.
In a separate operation, Zagazola reported that troops of Operation HADIN KAI also uncovered and safely detonated 14 improvised explosive devices during clearance operations in Gwoza Local Government Area.
The IEDs were discovered in Bitta and neighboring communities during ongoing counter-IED (CIED) operations. According to military sources, the explosives were planted by terrorists along footpaths, farmland corridors, and access roads frequently used by both civilians and troops.
The devices posed significant threats to farming and free movement in the area. Specialist teams were deployed to safely detonate the explosives without incident. Clearance operations are ongoing to eliminate remaining threats and restore safety in the region.
These recent operations underscore the Nigerian Army’s commitment to neutralizing threats posed by insurgents and denying them access to critical resources and mobility routes across the Northeast.
