Police Caution Vigilante Groups After Alleged Attack on Female Corps Member in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has cautioned vigilante groups operating in the state after the alleged assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Police authorities said the incident, reportedly carried out by some vigilante operatives, is under investigation, with the suspects already identified.
However, the Command disclosed that the alleged victim’s unavailability has temporarily stalled the process.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stressed that assault in any form constitutes a criminal offence under Nigerian law and would not be condoned.
He added that the Command retains the right to initiate necessary legal action to aid court proceedings while awaiting the victim’s participation.
Reassuring corps members serving in Anambra, Ikenga urged them to promptly report cases of harassment, intimidation, or abuse for immediate police intervention.
“The Command further cautions vigilante groups and other quasi-security outfits against acts of brutality or abuse of authority, warning that any such misconduct will not be condoned,” the statement read in part.
