Delegations Arrive Abuja for Inaugural African Defence Chiefs Summit
Abuja is set to host the maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff (CDS) Summit, as military delegations from across the continent began arriving ahead of the three-day event scheduled to open on Monday, August 25.
A three-man delegation from Congo Brazzaville was the first to arrive in the nation’s capital, signaling the commencement of what is expected to be a landmark gathering of Africa’s top military leaders.

The summit, the first of its kind on the continent, will draw participants from 35 African countries. It aims to provide a high-level platform for defence chiefs to deliberate on pressing security challenges, enhance military cooperation, and advance regional stability.
Key issues on the agenda include evolving strategies to combat insurgency, terrorism, banditry, piracy, and other transnational security threats confronting Africa.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, will host the conference, which will also attract strategic partners and stakeholders committed to strengthening Africa’s collective security architecture.
The summit is expected to foster stronger collaboration among African militaries, paving the way for more coordinated and effective responses to security threats that transcend national borders.
