AU, Nigeria Sign MoU to Bolster Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The African Union (AU) Commission and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening collaboration in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism across Africa.
The agreement, sealed on September 8, was signed by Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, and Major-General Adamu Garba Laka, National Coordinator of Nigeria’s National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
According to the parties, the MoU provides a robust framework for enhancing cooperation and coordination on counterterrorism initiatives. It emphasizes strategies such as real-time intelligence sharing, joint research, deployment of NCTC experts to the African Union Counter-Terrorism Centre (AUCTC), as well as victim recovery, deradicalisation and reintegration programmes.
