Nigerian Troops Intercept Ransom Money, Recover 160 Rustled Cattle

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have reported a series of significant breakthroughs in the fight against terrorism and banditry across Zamfara and Sokoto States.

From September 8 to September 10, the forces intercepted ransom money, recovered over 160 rustled livestock, and neutralized several terrorists during a series of operations.
The military’s efforts included coordinated offensives in the Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta Local Government Areas.
Ransom Money Intercepted, Terrorists Neutralized
A major success was recorded along the Shinkafi-Katuru-Isa road, where troops intercepted a total of ₦23.7 million. The money was found on five suspects and is believed to have been ransom intended for terrorists. The suspects and the recovered money have been handed over to the appropriate agencies for further investigation.

In a separate operation, troops ambushed a group of terrorists in Anka and Tureta LGAs who were moving rustled livestock. The criminals fled, abandoning eight kidnapped victims and 21 sheep. In the Tureta area, troops recovered 143 rustled sheep. The rescued victims have been reunited with their families, while the recovered animals have been handed over to local government authorities.

However, the operations were not without cost. Troops on patrol in Gusau LGA came under heavy fire, resulting in a fierce battle. Six terrorists were neutralized, but the military suffered casualties. Three soldiers were killed in action, while two others later died from their injuries.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry in the region. The public is urged to assist security forces by providing timely and credible information to help restore peace in the North West and parts of the North Central.
The press release was signed by Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
