
Power Outage: Police Broker Peace Between AKTH, DisCos in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has successfully intervened in a dispute between the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) that led to the disconnection of power supply at the hospital.
The fallout between the two institutions had raised serious security and humanitarian concerns, as the blackout reportedly disrupted critical medical services and was linked to unfortunate consequences for patients.
A meeting convened on Sunday at the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, at Bompai Police Headquarters, brought together the Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof. A. Abba Sheshe, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the deliberations were aimed at finding an amicable solution to the crisis. During the talks, the KEDCO boss made arrangements for the immediate restoration of electricity supply to the hospital, underscoring the company’s commitment to resolving the matter.
Both parties expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police for his timely intervention, which prevented further escalation of the situation.
The police described the resolution as a testament to its dedication to protecting lives and property and ensuring uninterrupted services in critical institutions like hospitals.
The Command also commended AKTH and KEDCO for their cooperation and assured continued support in maintaining peace and stability in the state.
