Troops Eliminate 2 ISWAP Senior Commanders, Other Terrorists in Borno

Nigerian troops have eliminated at least eight fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), including two field commanders and a sector leader, during a clash in Borno State, PRNigeria learnt.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the encounter occurred early Monday along the Maiduguri–Baga highway, near Garin Giwa, close to Cross Kauwa. The insurgents had attempted to ambush a patrol team when troops engaged them in a fierce gun battle.

“During the engagement, eight terrorists were killed, including two Munzirs (field commanders) and one Qaid (sector leader). They were identified as Modu Dogo, a Munzir from Dogon Chukun; another yet-to-be-identified Munzir; and Abu Aisha, a Qaid from Tumbun Mota,” one of the sources disclosed.

The source added that several other fighters sustained injuries, with some fleeing on foot and abandoning 14 motorcycles, which were later recovered by the troops.

The incident marks another significant setback for ISWAP elements operating around the Lake Chad basin.
