PSC Subjects 400 Senior Police Officers to Promotional Examination
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has subjected over 400 senior police officers from across the country to a promotion examination as part of efforts to entrench merit, competence, and character in the Nigeria Police Force.
The exercise, which held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, saw 56 Chief Superintendents of Police recommended for promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, while 451 Superintendents of Police were considered for elevation to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police.
According to a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations of the PSC, the candidates underwent a written examination presided over by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary, and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Bar. Taiwo Lekanu, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Affairs.

The Commission said the introduction of promotion examinations would henceforth serve as a prerequisite for career advancement in the Nigeria Police Force. This, it explained, is to ensure officers are mentally and professionally equipped to meet the challenges of 21st-century policing in line with global best practices.
Deputy Superintendents of Police are scheduled to appear before the Commission on Friday, September 19, 2025, for their round of promotion examinations.
PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to building a dynamic and modern police institution that reflects the aspirations of a new Nigeria. He stressed that the Commission would not relent until the Police Force is transformed into an efficient and effective service capable of protecting lives and property and tackling crime and criminality.
He further called on Nigerians to support the Force, noting that such encouragement would inspire officers to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
