Kano Secures School Feeding, Investment Prospects at UNGA80
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced fresh opportunities for school feeding, healthcare interventions, and foreign investment following the state’s participation at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) High-Level Week in New York.
Governor Yusuf, represented at the global forum by the Emir of Kano, His Highness Khalifah Muhammad Sanusi II, and the Director-General of the Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (Kan-Invest), Muhammad Naziru Halliru, said the engagements reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to harness international partnerships for the state’s development.
One of the key highlights was a strategic meeting between Emir Sanusi and Kenyan social entrepreneur, Wawira Njiru, founder and CEO of Food4Education, aimed at exploring collaboration on school feeding programmes in Kano. Discussions also touched on access to dedicated African Development Bank (AfDB) funds to support such initiatives.

The Kano delegation also participated in high-level events, including the Global Compact: Unstoppable Africa, the Cavista Holdings/Corporate Council on Africa Summit, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Event. At these platforms, Kano’s investment opportunities, healthcare priorities, and human capital development needs were presented to global partners.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the engagements signal Kano’s emergence as a major investment destination in Nigeria.
“Our investment agenda is already yielding results. By building global partnerships, we are strengthening our economy, improving the wellbeing of our people, and laying the foundation for sustainable development,” he said.
The governor further revealed that his administration will soon unveil a five-year multi-sectoral investment strategic plan designed to attract investors, boost state revenue, and expand opportunities for citizens.
He commended Emir Sanusi for his distinguished representation at UNGA80, noting that the monarch’s international influence enhanced the state’s visibility and credibility at the global stage.
