Tinubu Holds First Meeting with New Service Chiefs in Aso Rock

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday, met with newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja in what marks the beginning of a fresh phase in the country’s military leadership.

PRNigeria gathered that the new military heads arrived at the forecourt of Aso Rock around 4 p.m. in a black Mercedes van, escorted by a green Toyota Land Cruiser, for their first closed-door session with the Commander-in-Chief.

In attendance were the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shuaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abbas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke; and the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye, who retained his position.

The meeting comes barely three days after Tinubu announced sweeping changes in the military hierarchy, in what the Presidency described as part of efforts to “strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.”

Recall that a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the reshuffle saw General Olufemi Oluyede replacing General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.

Tinubu, while expressing his “profound appreciation” to the outgoing service chiefs for their patriotic service, charged the new military heads to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces.

“The President expects the new service chiefs to sustain the momentum, sharpen intelligence, and build synergy to ensure lasting peace and stability across Nigeria,” Dare said.

With the appointments, Tinubu signals a renewed drive to recalibrate Nigeria’s defence strategy amid evolving security challenges nationwide.
