Army Repels Bandits’ Invasion in Kano, Neutralizes 19

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, have repelled an attempted invasion by armed bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 of the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

The troops, acting on credible intelligence, launched a swift response around 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025, after receiving reports of bandits moving through the Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse axis of Shanono.

According to a statement by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation followed a tip-off on the movement of the criminals who stormed the area on motorcycles. The troops, supported by other security agencies, engaged the assailants in an intense exchange of fire that forced the bandits to flee from the communities.

“Own troops deployed at Tsaure came in contact with the bandits which led to exchange of fire where troops successfully pursued the bandits and recovered several motorcycles and two mobile phones from the criminals. It was confirmed that 19 bandits were neutralized during the encounter,” the statement said.

Regrettably, the Army also confirmed that two gallant soldiers and one vigilante lost their lives during the operation.

Further clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to track down the fleeing bandits and protect vulnerable communities that have suffered repeated attacks and cattle rustling in the past.

The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, commended the troops for their bravery and sacrifice, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Kano State.

He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.

The Nigerian Army assured law-abiding citizens that efforts are being intensified to maintain lasting peace and security across the state.
