COAS Reunites with NDA 41 Coursemates, Rallies Support to Tackle Insecurity
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday met with his 41 Regular Combatant Course mates from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Abuja, urging collective action and renewed commitment to end insecurity across the country.
The meeting, held at the Army Headquarters, was an emotional yet purposeful reunion of brothers-in-arms who trained together decades ago and have since continued to serve Nigeria in various capacities.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel, Appolinia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations today in Abuja.
Welcoming his coursemates, the Army Chief described them as an integral part of his leadership journey and success, noting that the bond forged at the NDA remains unbroken. He emphasized that their wealth of experience, both in active service and retirement, continues to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.
Lt Gen Shaibu revealed that since his appointment as COAS, his colleagues have been actively engaging him with ideas on how to advance national security, describing them as his “eyes and ears” across the country.

He urged them to sustain the collaboration, adding that their insight and field knowledge remain vital to his command’s ongoing reforms.
“Together, we can make Nigeria safer, stronger, and more united,” he said.
Earlier, President of the 41 Regular Combatant Course Alumni Association, Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), led the delegation in congratulating Lt Gen Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff. He hailed the COAS as a professional and visionary leader whose rise represents the pride and collective fulfillment of their course.
Major Anyanya recalled Shaibu’s exceptional leadership qualities since their academy days, describing him as a disciplined and inspiring officer who served as the Academy Cadet Adjutant over three decades ago. He expressed confidence that the Army Chief would continue to deliver excellence in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for national security.
The delegation also commended Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, National President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), for her support to the welfare of officers’ families, pledging the association’s solidarity with her leadership.
The reunion ended with reflections on service, sacrifice, and the shared responsibility of securing the nation.
