Nigeria Deepens Global Alliances with UNICEF, Poland on Boosting Economy, Human Capital Growth

Nigeria on Thursday deepened its international cooperation in human capital development and economic expansion as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, hosted two high-level delegations from UNICEF and the Government of Poland in Abuja.

Receiving UNICEF’s new Country Representative, Hajar Saeed, Mr. Edun reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating social protection, education, and healthcare investments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda. He noted that Nigeria’s macroeconomic policies are intentionally designed to raise productivity, reduce inequality, and expand opportunities for all citizens.

“Human capital is the engine of sustainable development. Our macroeconomic reforms are designed to improve lives, unlock economic potential, and ensure every Nigerian can participate in national growth,” the Minister said.

Ms. Saeed commended the government’s ongoing reforms and pledged UNICEF’s continued alignment with national priorities. She highlighted the organisation’s readiness to explore innovative financing models—including debt-for-development and debt-for-climate swaps—to strengthen child welfare, broaden social coverage, and support long-term development outcomes.

In a related engagement earlier in the day, the Minister also met with a high-level Polish delegation led by Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Africa, Wojciech Zajączkowski, to advance discussions aimed at boosting bilateral trade and strategic investments.

Mr. Edun welcomed Poland’s increasing engagement with Nigeria, stressing that the country’s improving macroeconomic indicators and rising investor confidence present significant opportunities across manufacturing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, mining, agriculture, and defence technology.

Deputy Minister Zajączkowski described Nigeria as Poland’s top strategic partner in Africa, praising the government’s reform momentum. He expressed Poland’s readiness to strengthen private-sector partnerships, advance digital governance collaboration, and expand trade relations between both countries.

The two meetings underscore Nigeria’s renewed drive to attract global partnerships that support inclusive growth, enhance human capital development, and unlock mutually beneficial economic opportunities.
