Fani-Kayode Slams Trump, Warns Against US Intervention in Nigeria

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a scathing rebuke of U.S. President Donald Trump, fiercely condemning his threats of military action against Nigeria and warning that such intervention is a plot for “total and complete oppression, subjugation and re-colonisation.”
Delivering the keynote address, titled “Bow to God and Not to Trump!” at the Akure NBA Conference on November 11, 2025, Fani-Kayode stated that the U.S. President’s motives for threatening Nigeria are “disingenuous, self-serving, baseless, unfounded and questionable.”
War Threat is a Ploy to Pillage Resources
Fani-Kayode, who also holds the title Sadaukin Shinkafi, warned that Trump’s intention is not to save Christians but to drive a wedge between Christians and Muslims, ignite a religious war, and finally “carve up and occupy our land and pillage our rare earth, gold, lithium, uranium, diamonds, gems, precious metals, crude oil, aluminium, natural gas and other mineral resources.”
He asserted that Nigeria risks being subjected to the same fate as Yugoslavia in the 1990s—broken up into smaller countries and vassal states compelled to host U.S. military bases.
“Total and complete oppression, subjugation and re-colonisation: that is their ultimate objective,” he declared.
Insecurity is Not Solely Anti-Christian
The former Minister clarified that while he believes genocide has been carried out by terrorist groups against Christians, their “villainous and callous butchery was not limited to Christians alone,” but extended to Muslims “in equal if not greater numbers.”
He quoted Oxford University PhD candidate James Barnett, who recently wrote that framing Nigeria’s crisis entirely as a “War on Christians” badly distorts the tragic reality and will not yield good outcomes for U.S. policy.
Fani-Kayode strongly refuted the claim that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria:
* High Christian Population: There are over 120 million Christians in Nigeria, representing 50% of the overall population.
* Political Appointments: 62% of all Government appointments have been given to Christians under the Tinubu administration.
* Security Leadership: The Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Inspector General of Police, and Director General of the DSS are all Christians.
He questioned how a Christian community with such political and security representation could be facing an existential threat.
Call for Decisive Action, Not Capitulation
Fani-Kayode called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honor his obligation to “ruthlessly wipe out the Islamist terrorists and foreign militias once and for all,” rather than engaging in dialogue or rehabilitation.
He cautioned against suggestions that President Tinubu should seek a meeting with Trump, which he called “incredulous as it is baffling,” and warned could result in the Nigerian President being “verbally and savagely assaulted, insulted and berated.”
“We are not a nation of slaves and beggars. We are not a nation of cowards and peasants who bow and tremble before a school yard bully,” Fani-Kayode concluded, asserting that if the U.S. were to attack, they would suffer dramatically and fail, as they have done in Vietnam, Somalia, and Afghanistan.
