Tik Toker lamenting "silence" over killing of Brigadier Uba

Fact Check: Did Late Brigadier Uba’s Wife Lament Silence Over Husband’s Killing on Tik Tok?

Claim: A viral TikTok video shows a woman purported to be a wife of the late Brigadier-General Musa Uba lamenting the national silence following his alleged killing by ISWAP; the clip is being shared claiming she is  Brig. Uba’s widow.

Background: Brigadier General Musa Uba Nigerian was an Army officer who was reportedly killed in action against insurgents. Prior to his death, he was the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade in Borno State.

PRNigeria earlier reported that Brigadier Uba had confirmed his safety to superior officers following a successful air-ground rescue operation. However, sources revealed that terrorists intercepted details of his location, enabling them to capture and summarily execute him after interrogation.

Posts circulating on TikTok, X (Twitter) and other social platforms label a short, emotional video of a woman criticising the country’s silence as being made by Brigadier Uba’s widow.

In the video, the labeled woman said she had spent hours online “waiting to see something that will give me hope,” only to be met with a disturbing silence across the country.

She contrasted the muted response to Brigadier Uba’s death with the past, when fallen soldiers were honoured with communal respect, with towns and states closing in mourning.

“I’ve been online since morning, waiting to see something that will give me hope. So tell me why, till now, everywhere is just quiet like a chicken died? When I was younger, if a soldier fell, communities and even states closed.

Verification: to confirm the authenticity of the claim, PRNigeria checked major news outlets and wire services for the timeline and official statements, only reported ISWAP capture and execution of the brigadier general and published follow-up coverage flooded the search results.

However, PRNigeria found multiple Nigerian outlets and social-media posts which published the same short clip and described the woman as the military officer’s wife who went online to lament perceived silence.

PRNigeria further reviewed the content of the publicly circulated clip and found that the clip itself contains no on-screen identification that links the woman to Brig. Uba by name.

As part of the verification PRNigeria further contacted family sources and they confirmed the woman in the widely shared video is not Brig. Gen. Musa Uba’s wife. Family sources also provided the widow’s name as Lawiza Musa Uba. Separately, the woman in the viral clip is identified in media reposts by the handle “Everything Woman” on TikTok.

Conclusion: findings by PRNigeria reveals that the emotional TikTok clip has been misattributed in some posts and headlines. The woman in the clip is being commonly identified online as “Everything Woman” a TikTok user, but she is not the late general’s wife Lawiza Musa Uba according to the family members we contacted.

Verdict: PRNigeria therefore concluded that the claim that the tiktoker is Brig Gen Uba’s wife is Misleading / False attribution.
