Abducted Niger Pupils: Military Intensifies Rescue Ops, Cautions Against Speculation
The Defence Headquarters says intensive search-and-rescue operations are underway to ensure the safe return of pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Agwara, Niger State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Michael Onoja, in a statement on Sunday, described the case as a “top national security concern”, assuring parents and the public that the military is fully committed to reuniting all the victims with their families.

PRNigeria has reported that gunmen invaded the remote school community last week, whisking away an undisclosed number of children and sparking widespread concerns over rising bandit attacks targeting rural communities in the North-Central region.
Onoja urged the public and commentators to refrain from circulating unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing operations.
He warned that speculation, especially on social media, may compromise intelligence efforts and endanger the children.
“Concerted efforts are being made to ensure their safety and quick reunion with families,” the DHQ said, adding that parents and local leaders should promptly share credible information with security agencies.
The military also acknowledged the anxiety of parents and the wider community, stressing that the rescue mission remains a top priority for the defence establishment and will continue until “every child is returned home.”
