
Nigerian Army Elevates Former MNJTF Spokesperson Abubakar Abdullahi to Colonel Rank
The Nigerian Army has promoted Lt. Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi to the rank of full Colonel, in recognition of his distinguished military career spanning critical public relations and information operations roles across multiple security theatres.
The promotion ceremony was held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), celebrating not only individual achievement but also the Nigerian Army’s commitment to excellence in military communications and public information management during operations affecting national and regional security.
Colonel Abdullahi, a Mass Communication graduate from Bayero University Kano, has built an impressive service record since his commission and posting to the Directorate of Army Public Relations.

His career has encompassed pivotal roles across Nigeria’s security landscape. Most recently, he served as the Chief of Military Public Information at the Headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in N’djamena, Republic of Chad, representing multinational military interests in the fight against insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin region.
He had served in active conflict zones including Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri and Operation Fansan Yamma in Gusau as Media Information Officer.
His portfolio also included Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 82 Division in Enugu, Coordinator of the Joint Media Campaign Center for Operation Delta Safe in Yenagoa, and Public Relations Officer at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
Colonel Abdullahi’s specialized training underscores his commitment to professional excellence in military communications and leadership.
His international training includes the Crisis Communication Course at Royal Air Force Halton in the United Kingdom and the African Union Peace Support Operations Staff Officers’ Course in Teshie, Ghana.
He is an Associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), further underscoring his professional credentials beyond military service.
