Brigade Commander, Security Chiefs Hail Troops After Foiling Bandit Attack in Kano

The Commander of 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, has commended frontline troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation MESA for their resilience and gallantry following theirhell a successful counterattack against bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

Brigadier General Tukur gave the commendation during an operational visit to Faruruwa and Tsaure wards in Shanono, accompanied by the Commander of the 455 Base Services Group of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore M. Suleiman, and the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The visit was aimed at assessing the operational readiness of the troops and boosting morale after their recent engagement, in which they reportedly repelled a fierce bandit attack on their positions and inflicted heavy casualties on the assailants.

The Joint Task Force Operation MESA comprises personnel drawn from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Addressing the troops, the Brigade Commander expressed admiration for their professionalism and courage, describing their response to the attack as extraordinary and exemplary. He urged them to sustain the momentum of their recent successes, warning against complacency and emphasizing the need for continuous vigilance.

Brigadier General Tukur assured the troops that efforts were ongoing to further strengthen their operational capacity and provide the necessary support to enhance their effectiveness in the ongoing operation. He noted that their bravery and resilience in the face of adversity were worthy of recognition and must be consistently demonstrated in future engagements.

In their separate remarks, Air Commodore Suleiman and CP Bakori underscored the importance of discipline and teamwork, describing them as the foundation of operational success. They assured the troops that their operational and administrative challenges had been noted and would be addressed appropriately.

The Brigade Commander also condoled with the troops over the loss of two personnel who paid the supreme sacrifice during the encounter. Special prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the fallen soldiers and for peace and security across the nation.

As part of efforts to boost morale, the troops were treated to a special luncheon in recognition of their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in protecting lives and maintaining peace in Kano State and its environs.

The operational visit followed a well-coordinated counteroffensive by the troops, which resulted in significant losses for the bandits. The success has been widely regarded as a morale booster and a testament to the training, coordination, and commitment of the security forces involved.

The statement was signed by Major Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and dated January 2, 2026.
