Fact-Check: Did Sheikh Gumi Delete Anti‑Trump Posts After the U.S. Attack on Venezuela?
Claim: A report circulating online claims that Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has deleted all his social media posts critical of the United States and its president, Donald Trump after the abduction President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela by US troops.
Background: The Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, is known for being critical of President Trump, particularly after Nigeria was designated a “Country of Particular Concern” by the U.S. government over alleged persecution of Christians in the country. He also condemned Trump on other issues.
Following reported U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto targeting suspected Lakurawa terrorists advancing from the Sahel, Sheikh Gumi warned Nigeria against partnering with the United States, describing America as a “bigger terrorist” and advising closer security cooperation with China.
More recently, social media posts attributed to Donald Trump claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro had been captured and taken to the United States. Shortly after, a publication alleged that Sheikh Gumi had deleted all posts critical of the U.S., insinuating that the cleric acted out of fear following recent American military actions.

The publication further claimed that Sheikh Gumi quietly removed anti-American content from his social media platforms.
Verification:
To verify the claim, PRNigeria reviewed Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s official Facebook page, which has over 800,000 followers. Findings show that several posts critical of the United States and its leadership remain visible and intact.
Among them is a post made just hours after the viral claim, criticising U.S. actions in Venezuela, titled: “Illegal + force = legal. This is the world we live in. So unite, form a force.”
Another post, also published hours after reports of President Maduro’s capture, reads: “They disregard international law and the sanctity of human life.”
In a separate post made within the same period, Sheikh Gumi wrote: “Venezuelans should adopt Islam. That will give them the moral rectitude to leave drugs and the courage to repel the Devil and imperial subjugation. Islam remains the only force that can replace the world’s injustice and hypocrisy.”
Another post critical of the U.S. states:
“Supreme banditry doesn’t attack villages; they attack nations and kidnap leaders.”
All these posts remain publicly accessible on his verified Facebook page as of the time of this fact-check.
Conclusion: Therefore, PRNigeria concludes that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi did not delete his posts critical of the United States or its president, Donald Trump. Evidence shows that multiple critical posts were published and remained available on his Facebook page even after the claim of deletion went viral.
Verdict: False! The claim that Sheikh Gumi deleted all his posts critical of the United States and its president is not supported by evidence. The claim is therefore false and misleading.
