FG Reaffirms Support for Troops as AFN Honours Fallen Heroes
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to adequately support officers and men of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as the military honoured fallen heroes and celebrated service and excellence at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Regimental Dinner Night in Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event held on Tuesday night in Abuja, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), said the annual celebration was more than a ceremonial gathering, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s military heritage, sacrifice and professionalism.
Musa said Nigerian troops continued to confront complex asymmetric threats under difficult conditions, stressing that the peace and stability enjoyed in many parts of the country were products of their vigilance, courage and unwavering dedication.
He paid tribute to officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation, noting that their sacrifices were permanently etched in Nigeria’s national consciousness. The minister also acknowledged the resilience of families of fallen heroes, describing them as silent pillars of national sacrifice.
