Why Nigeria Needs Global Allies in Fighting Terrorism — CCC Chairman Olukolade
The Chairman of the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd), has urged Nigeria to deepen international security cooperation, describing global partnerships as critical to winning the fight against terrorism and other transnational threats confronting the country.
Speaking during an interview with TVC to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day, monitored by PRNigeria, Olukolade, a former Director of Defence Information, said the evolving nature of insecurity demands collective action beyond national borders.
“Terrorism is a global phenomenon, not a challenge exclusive to Nigeria. It is only through sustained collaboration with international partners that we can effectively address the threat and strengthen our national security architecture,” he said.
While highlighting the importance of external partnerships, the retired general also praised the resilience of Nigerian troops operating across multiple theatres, noting that their recent operational gains against non-state actors reflect growing professionalism and commitment despite logistical and operational challenges.

The ex-spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said the annual Remembrance Day serves not only as a moment of national reflection but also as a strategic platform to reinforce morale among serving personnel and reassure families of fallen heroes that their sacrifices remain central to the country’s security priorities.
Olukolade acknowledged what he described as steady progress in the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of veterans and the families of deceased personnel, particularly in the area of benefit payments and social support.
“There are conscious efforts being made to address the entitlements of retired personnel and to extend better care to the families of those who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation,” he noted.
He expressed confidence that further reforms would be driven by the current leadership of the Ministry of Defence, led by General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), whom he said possesses a deep understanding of the professional and psychological realities of military service, having risen through the ranks.
The former DHQ spokesman concluded by calling for sustained policy attention to both troop welfare and international engagement, stressing that national security can only be strengthened when frontline personnel are adequately supported and Nigeria remains firmly embedded in the global security community.
