Over 80% of Candidates Earn 5 Credits as NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, announcing that more than 80 per cent of candidates recorded five credits and above.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Declaring the results in a video posted on NECO’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Prof. Wushishi said candidates can access their results on the council’s website, (http://www.neco.gov.ng), using their examination registration numbers.
According to him, a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent). Out of this figure, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the tests across 16 subjects.

He disclosed that 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, with 73,167 candidates (78.32 per cent) obtaining credit and above. In Mathematics, 93,330 candidates participated, and 85,256 of them (91.35 per cent) achieved credit and above.
Overall, Prof. Wushishi stated that 68,166 candidates (71.63 per cent) secured five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 82,082 candidates (86.26 per cent) recorded five credits and above regardless of English and Mathematics.
On examination malpractice, the NECO boss revealed that 9,016 candidates were booked for various infractions, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024.
He added that five supervisors—two from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and one each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states—have been recommended for blacklisting for allegedly aiding and abetting malpractice.
Furthermore, four examination centres—two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano states—were recommended for de-recognition after being implicated in whole-centre malpractice.
The SSCE External examination is designed primarily for private candidates who seek certification outside the conventional school system or wish to improve their previous results. NECO conducts the exercise annually to expand access to secondary school certification nationwide.
