UK Media Team Visits Operation Hadin Kai, Hails Nigeria’s Counter-Terrorism Efforts
A delegation from United Kingdom–based Channel 4 News has visited the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State, where it commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for recorded successes in the fight against terrorism.
The delegation, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Mr Freddie Gower, said the visit was aimed at showcasing to the international community the significant progress made by Nigerian troops in counter-terrorism and stabilisation operations in the North East.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Gower explained that Channel 4 News, headquartered in London, reaches a global audience and focuses on major human interest stories, terrorism, and asymmetric warfare. He noted that the trip to Maiduguri would enable his team to gain first-hand insights into ongoing operations through engagements with military commanders and local communities.
He expressed appreciation to the Theatre Commander for the warm reception accorded the team and described the engagement as insightful and rewarding. According to him, the detailed operational briefings provided a comprehensive understanding of Operation Hadin Kai’s achievements, challenges, and progress in degrading terrorist networks.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed the command’s mandate to restore normalcy across the North East and create an enabling environment for socio-economic activities to thrive.
Major General Abubakar described the visit as a sign of growing international interest in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and assured the delegation of the command’s full cooperation in facilitating their assignment. He reiterated OPHK’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and responsible media engagement.
The Theatre Commander said the task force has prioritised the protection of vulnerable communities through robust non-kinetic operations, which have facilitated the return of thousands of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes. He added that improved security conditions have enabled farm patrols to boost food security and ensured sustained protection for humanitarian agencies delivering medical care, nutrition services, vaccinations, and immunisation programmes.
According to him, the security situation in the North East has been largely contained, particularly with ongoing operations that have significantly degraded terrorist enclaves. He further noted that OPHK continues to leverage cooperation with international partners, including the British Military Advisory and Training Team, to strengthen operational capacity.
The visit featured detailed operational briefings, the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs, and a group photograph.
