Bold World Leaders Condemn US‑Israel Strikes on Iran, Warn of Catastrophic Middle East Escalation
A wave of international condemnation has swept across global capitals in the last 24 hours following coordinated military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel, with world leaders warning that the attacks threaten to trigger a wider regional war and violate the foundational principles of international law.
The strikes, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his family, have prompted emergency responses from the United Nations Security Council, the European Union, and multiple heads of state who are calling for an immediate halt to hostilities and a return to diplomatic negotiations.
Spain: ‘A Unilateral Escalation That Violates International Order’
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez issued one of the sharpest condemnations among European leaders, declaring that Madrid unequivocally rejects what he described as unilateral military action that contributes to a more uncertain and hostile international order. Sanchez called for immediate de-escalation and demanded full respect for international law. “It is time to resume dialogue and achieve a lasting political solution for the region,” the Prime Minister said.
Oman: ‘This Is Not Your War’
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi — whose country had been serving as a critical diplomatic intermediary between Washington and Tehran — expressed dismay at the timing of the strikes, revealing that Iran had agreed in principle to zero stockpiling of nuclear enrichment just before the military action commenced. Al-Busaidi urged the United States not to be drawn further into the conflict, delivering a blunt message: “This is not your war.”
China and Russia: Sovereignty Must Be Respected
Beijing expressed deep concern over the strikes, calling for an immediate halt to military operations and a return to negotiations. In a statement from its Foreign Ministry, China affirmed that Iran’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity must be respected.

Russia’s Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev was more caustic in his response, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “The peacekeeper is at it again. The talks with Iran were just a cover. Everyone knew that.” Russia’s Foreign Ministry went further, describing the strikes as a pre-planned and unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent United Nations member state.
Malaysia, Pakistan and Norway Add to the Chorus of Alarm
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim condemned the strikes in strong terms, warning that the escalating conflict has pushed the Middle East to the edge of catastrophe. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar similarly condemned what he characterised as unwarranted attacks on Iran during a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide cautioned that the breakdown of diplomatic efforts means the world now faces the prospect of an extensive new war in the Middle East, a development he described as deeply alarming.
European Union Calls for ‘Maximum Restraint’
The European Union urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas describing the situation as perilous and pressing for a negotiated peace. Brussels has not yet indicated whether it will alter its diplomatic posture towards Washington or Tel Aviv in response to the strikes.
UN Security Council Convenes Emergency Session
The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency session in New York amid reports that Iran has launched retaliatory strikes against Israeli territory and United States military installations across the broader Middle East region. Diplomats and analysts are warning that the crisis represents the most dangerous military escalation in the region in decades.
As of the time of filing this report, the United States and Israeli governments had not responded publicly to the international condemnation. The situation remains fluid and fast-moving, with further developments expected in the coming hours.
