Troops Rescue 2 Hostages in Plateau, Arrest Suspected Gun Runner in Kaduna
Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have rescued two kidnapped victims in Plateau State and intercepted a suspected gun runner in Kaduna State as part of ongoing operations against criminal elements within the Joint Operations Area.
The rescue operation was carried out by troops deployed in Wase, who were on an aggressive fighting patrol around Kukawa in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State. According to military sources, the troops encountered suspected kidnappers who were transporting the victims to their hideout. On sighting the troops, the criminals reportedly abandoned the victims and fled into nearby bushes.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were abducted at gunpoint on February 22, 2026, from Mansur village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The victims have since been debriefed, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their families.
Security operatives have continued to comb the surrounding bushes to track down the fleeing suspects and possibly rescue other abducted persons.
In a related development, troops deployed in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State intercepted a 36-year-old suspected gun runner identified as Vincent Ibrahim during a stop-and-search operation at Kurmin Goro village. The suspect was reportedly conveying five locally fabricated rifles to an undisclosed destination in Kafanchan when he was apprehended.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the troops for their alertness and swift response. He reassured residents of the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the operational area.
