Private Sector Backs Emerging Music Talents
Dr Tunji Olowolafe, founder of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, has called for stronger private-sector collaboration to support emerging talents in Nigeria’s creative industry.
Olowolafe made the call on Saturday evening while hosting some first-time nominees of The Headies and contenders for the Rookie of the Year category to a dinner at the Jet Ski Club, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The gathering brought together young creatives at different stages of their careers for an evening of conversations, networking and encouragement, with emphasis on the need to complement industry recognition with mentorship, investment and opportunities.
Olowolafe said the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry required more than celebrating established stars, stressing the importance of creating platforms that could help emerging talents develop sustainable careers.
The initiative, according to the foundation, was designed to provide the young artistes with an opportunity to interact, share experiences and receive encouragement as they navigate the early stages of their careers.
The Headies, one of Nigeria’s major music award platforms, has over the years provided recognition for excellence in the Nigerian music industry, while categories such as Rookie of the Year have helped spotlight emerging artistes.
