Dangote Truck Drivers Raise Alarm Over Harassment by New Retail Investors After Refinery IPO Launch
Truck drivers working for the Dangote Group have raised concerns over what they describe as incessant harassment from newly minted retail investors following the launch of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Initial Public Offering (IPO).
In a video translated from Hausa to English by Economic Confidential, one of the drivers lamented that random individuals now stop him on the road claiming co‑ownership of the truck simply because they purchased shares in the company.
According to him, the situation has become “unbearable.”
“Yesterday, I was offloading goods when someone came on a motorcycle. After greeting me, he asked, ‘My friend, how is our truck?’ I was confused. He then said he now owns shares in Dangote,” the driver recounted.
“Another person in a taxi stop to warn me not to ever drive carelessly or he would recommend my sack because he is also another new shareholder!”

He stressed that while Nigerians are welcome to invest in the refinery, owning shares does not confer ownership of company assets or authority over its workers.
“Let me make this clear: nobody should stop me or tell me to be careful with the Dangote truck. The shares you bought are yours and have nothing to do with my job. Since the IPO launched yesterday, three people have already approached me to tell me to drive carefully.”
The driver appealed to the public to stop harassing truck operators, noting that their work is demanding enough without unsolicited interruptions from excited shareholders.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals formally launched its IPO on Monday, September 14, 2026, in what analysts describe as Africa’s biggest public offering in history.
The company is offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 each, targeting to raise approximately ₦2.15 trillion ($1.6 billion). The minimum subscription is 10 shares.
The offer opened at the Nigerian Exchange and will close on October 13, with listing expected in November 2026.
Founder Aliko Dangote said the IPO is designed to give millions of Nigerians and Africans an opportunity to own a stake in the continent’s largest refinery while raising capital for expansion.
