Troops Intercept IED-Making Chemical in Kwara
Troops of Operation Savannah Shield have intercepted a large quantity of chemical substances believed to be used in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Eruku–Egbe road in Kwara State.
Military authorities said the interception occurred on February 28 during a routine security operation targeting suspicious movements within the area.
During the stop-and-search exercise, troops flagged down a vehicle whose driver was found transporting eight 50-kilogram bags of a substance later identified as ammonium chloride.

The suspect reportedly failed to produce any documentation authorising the movement of the materials, raising suspicion among the troops.
Subsequent laboratory examination confirmed the substance as a key chemical component often used in the manufacture of improvised explosive devices.
Security officials said the suspect has been taken into custody while investigations continue to determine the intended destination of the materials and possible links to criminal networks.
The military noted that the interception represents a significant step in preventing potential attacks that could have been carried out using the explosives.
Authorities also reiterated the importance of intelligence sharing and vigilance among members of the public to help security agencies detect and disrupt threats before they materialise.
