Military Rescues 6 Hostages, Recovers 3 Motorcycles in Kaduna
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued six kidnapped victims following a gun battle with suspected terrorists in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources disclosed that the rescue operation was launched after credible intelligence indicated that armed terrorists were moving abducted victims through forest routes in the area.
According to the sources, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gurara, under Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YANMA, swiftly acted on the intelligence at about 7 a.m. on March 14.
The troops subsequently laid an ambush at a suspected crossing point frequently used by the terrorists around Sabon Kurutu Village in Kachia LGA.
During the operation, the troops encountered the armed group and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“The terrorists were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops and fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning some items,” a security source said.

However, a seventh victim, a minor, was reported to have died during the crossfire between the troops and the fleeing terrorists.
Troops also recovered three motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals to transport the abducted victims.
Preliminary interrogation of the rescued victims revealed that they had been abducted earlier on March 14 from Janjala Village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State before being moved through forest routes by the terrorists.
The rescued victims and the body of the deceased minor were evacuated to Katari Hospital for medical attention and necessary procedures, while families of the victims have been notified.
Military sources said troops of 1 Division under Operation FANSAN YANMA, alongside other security task forces, have continued sustained offensives and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks across the North-West region.
