Tinubu Names 16-Members for Police Academy Council
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the 16-member governing council of the Nigeria Police Academy, appointing the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, as chairman.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on April 20 by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the council includes key institutional stakeholders such as the chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police, alongside representatives from the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice.

The President also approved the appointment of six members representing Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. They are Babagana Zannah Adam (DCP, retired) for the North-East; Emmanuel Torkuma Manger for the North-Central; Maigari Abati Dikko (DIG, retired) for the North-West; Dubem A. Obaze (KSM) for the South-East; Ajibogere Toyin for the South-West; and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (DIG, retired) for the South-South.
In addition, the Commandant of the academy, the provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training will serve on the council as ex officio members, while the registrar of the institution will act as secretary.
The reconstitution of the council is part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen institutional governance and enhance training standards within the Nigeria Police Academy, a key institution responsible for the professional development of police officers in the country.
