Kano Police Foil Rival Gang Clash, Arrest 6 Suspects

The Kano State Police Command has foiled a violent clash between suspected rival ‘Yan Daba groups in Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters, restoring calm and arresting six suspects in a swift security response.

The incident occurred on April 27, 2026, at about 1:20 p.m., following a distress call indicating that suspected thugs had mobilised for an attack in the area. Police patrol teams were immediately deployed and, on arrival, encountered an ongoing violent confrontation between the rival groups.

During the clash, an ambulance was vandalised, while the hoodlums attempted to extend the violence to nearby locations. Police operatives intervened promptly, confronting the attackers. The suspects, however, regrouped and launched an assault on the officers using stones and other dangerous weapons. The attack was effectively repelled by the police.

The hoodlums subsequently fled towards the Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property. Reinforcements were quickly mobilised, leading to the dispersal of the group and the arrest of six suspects. Normalcy has since been restored in the affected areas.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers of the Farm Centre Division and supporting units for their professionalism, restraint, and rapid response, which prevented further escalation and potential loss of property.

He warned that the Command would not tolerate any form of thuggery or activities associated with ‘Yan Daba groups, stressing that individuals involved in acts capable of disturbing public peace would be decisively dealt with. He also urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against engaging in criminal activities.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and identify those behind the violence. The Command also acknowledged the role of residents who provided timely information and encouraged continued public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
