Troops Foil Terrorists’ Meeting, Destroy Hideout, Neutralise Several in Shinkafi
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have conducted a precision air-land offensive in Zamfara State, foiling a suspected high-level terrorist meeting and destroying a concealed hideout in Shinkafi Local Government Area, with several terrorists neutralised in the process.
The operation, executed on May 10, 2026, followed credible intelligence indicating that notorious terrorist leaders and commanders from across the West African sub-region had converged at a remote location in Tumfa Village for a strategic coordination meeting aimed at planning coordinated attacks on communities in the North West.
The Military disclosed that the meeting was held inside a concealed structure situated on the northern outskirts of the village, carefully hidden within dense vegetation and mango trees along a stream channel to avoid detection.

Acting on the intelligence, troops under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Air Component, launched a coordinated precision airstrike on the location. The strike reportedly obliterated the building being used as the meeting point.
A Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted after the operation confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised in the strike, while others who survived fled the area in disarray.
Further aerial surveillance revealed movements of suspected terrorist collaborators attempting to evacuate casualties from the scene, prompting continued monitoring of the general area.
Ground troops have since been conducting exploitation and clearance operations to track fleeing terrorists and consolidate gains from the offensive.
The Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorist elements and other criminal groups threatening peace in the North West region.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Further operational details are expected to be communicated as exploitation efforts continue in the area.
