ISWAP Suffers Heavy Losses as Troops Defend Gonori Base
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a midnight attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the 120 Task Force Battalion base in Gonori under Sector 2, inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents during a coordinated air-land offensive.
The failed attack occurred between the late hours of Saturday, May 9, and the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026, when the terrorists reportedly advanced towards the military formation from the Mandunari axis.
Military authorities disclosed that the insurgents were detected early by an ambush team positioned around the area, prompting troops to launch a swift spoiling attack that forced the terrorists into what was described as a devastating killing zone.
The troops, supported by platforms from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and the Nigerian Army Aviation, subsequently carried out a coordinated air-land assault on the fleeing terrorists, further compounding their losses.

According to the military, the operation ensured that no part of the camp was breached and no military equipment was lost during the confrontation.
A statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said exploitation of the battle area revealed extensive blood trails, body parts and several terrorist corpses, indicating significant casualties among the attackers.
Recovered items from the scene included one General Purpose Machine Gun, two PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, several belts of assorted ammunition and other personal effects.
The military also confirmed that soldiers wounded during the encounter were in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba added that exploitation operations were still ongoing to consolidate the gains recorded and track down fleeing terrorists within the general area.
He noted that the failed assault further demonstrated the operational dominance of Operation HADIN KAI troops and underscored the futility of terrorist attacks against battle-ready formations across the North-East theatre.
