NAF ‘Surgical’ Strikes Eliminate Terrorists, Destroy Camps in Southern Tumbuns, Mandara Mountains
The Nigerian Air Force has intensified its counterterrorism air campaign in the North-East, carrying out coordinated precision strikes on terrorist enclaves in Bukar Meram within the Southern Tumbuns and Chikide in the Mandara Mountains on 19 May 2026.
According to an official statement, the operation was executed under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI following credible intelligence and confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The air interdiction targeted concealed logistics hubs, structures, and assembly areas used by terrorist elements operating in the enclaves.

The strikes reportedly destroyed multiple terrorist logistics bases and operational shelters, while also neutralising several fighters and disrupting what authorities described as planned attacks. Military sources indicated that the affected locations had been under surveillance prior to the engagement, enabling precision targeting.
Reaffirming the force’s operational posture, the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, stated that the Air Force remains committed to sustained joint and coordinated operations with sister services and partner forces. He emphasised that intelligence-driven air operations will continue to focus on identifying and destroying terrorist hideouts, logistics networks, and operational bases across the theatre of operations.
The latest strikes form part of ongoing air and ground offensives aimed at degrading insurgent capabilities and restoring stability in the North-East region.
