Troops Neutralise Bandits in Taraba, Arrest Robbery Suspects in Plateau Market
Troops of the Nigerian Army and other security formations have recorded fresh operational successes in Taraba and Plateau states, neutralising suspected bandits, recovering arms and arresting robbery suspects in separate operations.
In Taraba State, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke neutralised two suspected bandits during a clearance operation in Ibi Local Government Area.
Military sources disclosed that the operation was carried out around the Dooshima District in Sarkin Kudu area following credible intelligence on the activities of armed criminal elements within the community.
The troops reportedly launched a tactical raid on May 18, 2026, and engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle after making contact at their hideout.
According to the sources, two suspected bandits were killed during the exchange, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one locally fabricated pistol, one Android phone, three smaller mobile phones, two charm vests and other personal effects.
The military said the recovered items remained in custody pending further investigation and necessary action.

The Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Akaliro, commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery during the operation.
He stated that the raid was in line with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to intensify operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements and restoring peace across Taraba State and adjoining areas.
Akaliro also reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal groups and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace arrested two suspects linked to an alleged armed robbery incident at Agingi Market in Bassa Local Government Area.
Security sources said the troops, deployed under Sector 1 of the operation, responded to a distress call at about 6:20 p.m. on May 18, 2026, over suspected criminal activities in the market area.
Upon arrival, the troops reportedly discovered that a tricycle rider, identified as Mr Napis Daniel, had been assaulted by a group of youths, while his tricycle was allegedly forcefully taken at gunpoint.
Sources further disclosed that the tricycle was allegedly seized by one Mr Aguja during the incident.
Two suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged robbery and are currently in custody for further investigation.
Security authorities said efforts were ongoing to recover the stolen tricycle and apprehend other suspects linked to the crime.
