Troops Repel ISWAP/Boko Haram Attack in Kirawa, Eliminate 12 Terrorists
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on a military location in Kirawa, along the Nigeria–Cameroon border in Borno State, killing at least 12 insurgents.
The attempted infiltration occurred in the early hours of Thursday during ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY and SIEGE OPERATIONS within Sector 1 of the OPHK Area of Responsibility.
According to the military, the terrorists targeted positions occupied by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and associated forces in the Kirawa axis. However, vigilant troops, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), detected the movement of the insurgents early and responded with what the military described as “overwhelming firepower.”
The fierce resistance forced the attackers to abandon the mission and retreat towards the Cameroon axis while sustaining heavy casualties.
