Troops Neutralise Terrorists in Zamfara, Rescue 148 Hostages in Niger Operations
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA and Combat Sub-Sector (CSS) X have intensified ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-West, neutralising suspected terrorists in Zamfara State and rescuing 148 kidnapped victims in neighbouring Niger State.
Security sources disclosed that troops of 1 Operation FANSAN YANMA neutralised two terrorists during a fighting patrol conducted in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was launched at about 1:00 p.m. on May 27 following intelligence reports of terrorist activities around Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja communities.
According to the sources, the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle and overpowered them during the encounter.
Two suspected terrorists were killed in the operation, while troops recovered two locally fabricated rifles and four motorcycles from the scene.
The troops also destroyed identified terrorist camps within the area as part of efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts and disrupt their activities.

In a related development, troops operating under Combat Sub-Sector X rescued 148 kidnapped victims during an operation at Kotonkoro in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Sources said the rescue operation was carried out at about 1:30 p.m. on May 27.
The rescued victims comprised two adult males and 146 women and children who were reportedly abducted from villages in Wamba District of Mariga LGA.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had been held captive for about three months by terrorists believed to have operated from the Kuyambana Forest in Zamfara State.
Following the operation, the victims were escorted to the Mariga Local Government Headquarters in Bangi, where they were handed over to local authorities for documentation and reunion with their families.
Security operations against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes are continuing across Niger, Zamfara and other parts of the North-West as security forces intensify efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
