Emir of Ilorin Appoints Sheikh Bashir Dasuki as Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin Emirate
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has approved the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the new Chief Imam Fulani of the Ilorin Emirate.
The appointment followed a rigorous selection process involving several eminent Islamic scholars and clerics from within the Emirate, at the end of which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki emerged successful.
The revered spiritual position is one of the important Islamic leadership offices in the Ilorin Emirate, with responsibility for promoting religious scholarship, providing spiritual guidance, and supporting the advancement of Islamic teachings within the community.
The newly appointed Chief Imam Fulani, who is 42 years old, hails from a distinguished lineage of Islamic scholars and spiritual leaders in Ilorin. He is a grandson of the 8th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam Fulani of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Prior to his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki was the Founder and Proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport, Egbejila, Ilorin, where he has devoted years to the teaching of Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic studies, and moral instruction.
He also served as the Imam of Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko-Olowo, Ilorin, where he led daily congregational prayers and weekly Jumu’ah services while mentoring young scholars and members of the Muslim community.
His appointment has been widely welcomed by Islamic scholars, community leaders, and members of the Ilorin Emirate, who described it as a recognition of his scholarship, leadership qualities, and commitment to the propagation of Islam.
Observers note that the emergence of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki continues the longstanding tradition of Islamic scholarship and spiritual leadership associated with the Dasuki Imam Fulani family, which has played a significant role in the religious development of the Ilorin Emirate for generations.
