Military Raid in Zamfara Kills Terrorists, Frees Three Kidnap Victims
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims and recovered arms and logistics during coordinated operations in parts of Zamfara State.
The operations, conducted across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas, form part of ongoing military efforts to rid the North-West state of banditry and terrorist activities.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the operational successes were recorded on June 12 during fighting patrols and ambush operations.
Osoba said troops conducting a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities in Zurmi Local Government Area made contact with terrorists in Yanbuki District.
He said the troops engaged the criminals in a fierce firefight, neutralising one terrorist and recovering rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.

The military spokesperson disclosed that as troops advanced to Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists abandoned their hideout and fled ahead of the advancing forces.
“Troops subsequently cleared and completely destroyed the terrorists’ enclave,” he said.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis, Osoba said troops on routine patrol successfully ambushed another group of terrorists.
He noted that one terrorist was killed during the encounter, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles and assorted charms.
The military further disclosed that troops successfully rescued three kidnapped victims during the operations.
“The rescued individuals are currently receiving necessary care, while efforts are ongoing to reunite them with their respective families,” the statement added.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
“Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in its commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and by extension the North-West region,” Osoba stated.
