Tinubu Mourns Gen. Rabe Abubakar, Vows No Concessions to Terrorists
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held captive by terrorists in Katsina State.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the late military officer as a distinguished serviceman whose death underscores the need for a sustained and uncompromising fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
According to the statement, General Abubakar was travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by armed criminals. He later died in captivity, while his wife remains in the custody of the kidnappers.
The President extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly his wife, who is still being held against her will. He also sympathised with the Katsina State Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces over the loss.
Tinubu condemned the actions of the terrorists and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve not to negotiate with criminal groups or accede to demands for the release of detained terrorists.

Reiterating his position on the fight against insecurity, Tinubu referenced his Democracy Day address of June 12, in which he warned bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terrorism to surrender or face decisive action by the Nigerian state.
He stressed that no mercy would be shown to individuals involved in acts of terror against Nigerians, adding that the nation’s enemies would ultimately be defeated.
The President said the death of General Abubakar should serve as a turning point in Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, insisting that terrorists and insurgents must be treated as enemies of the state and not engaged through negotiations.
According to him, the tragic incident reinforces the need for national unity and collective determination to eradicate terrorism and insecurity across the country.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome the threat posed by terrorists and continue its pursuit of peace, stability and prosperity.
