NAF Conducts Weapons Proficiency Exercise to Boost Combat Readiness in Maiduguri
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted a Small Arms Range Classification Exercise at its Maiduguri base as part of efforts to strengthen combat readiness and enhance the operational effectiveness of personnel engaged in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
The exercise, held on June 18, forms part of the NAF’s continuous training programme aimed at maintaining a highly professional, motivated and mission-ready force capable of responding to evolving security challenges across the country.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, commended personnel for their discipline, professionalism and dedication to duty.
Akinboyewa, who attended as the Special Guest of Honour, urged officers and airmen to maintain the highest standards of combat preparedness in the face of emerging security threats and continue contributing to the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Earlier, the Air Component Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Air Commodore M.B. Ahmed, described the exercise as a critical component of the Nigerian Air Force’s training and capacity-building efforts.

According to him, regular weapons proficiency exercises are essential to ensuring that personnel remain adequately prepared to execute assigned missions and support national security objectives effectively.
Also speaking, the Commander of the 105 Composite Group, Group Captain K.O. Nwachukwu, reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to strengthening base defence capabilities through continuous training, professional development and strict adherence to operational standards.
The exercise featured live-fire assessments designed to evaluate personnel in marksmanship, weapon handling and battlefield preparedness. It attracted senior military officers, representatives of the Borno State Government and heads of security agencies.
Military authorities said the training was aimed not only at improving individual proficiency but also at enhancing the overall combat effectiveness of the force and its ability to deliver decisive air power in support of ongoing operations.
The exercise further highlighted the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s integrated approach to tackling insecurity through enhanced joint operations, operational excellence and sustained collaboration among security agencies.
The Nigerian Air Force reiterated its commitment to maintaining a highly capable and mission-ready force, stressing that continuous training remains vital to achieving lasting peace, security and stability across the country.
